Missouri Western Homecoming Parade

Council members participated in Missouri Western State University's Homecoming Parade for the first time. The windy ride from Mayor Bill's shop to the line-up on Union Street didn't chill anyone's enthusiasm.
With the grand daughters of Starr and Jones at the front of the float, and councilmembers Kovac and LaBass at the back, plenty of candy and bubble gum was tossed to parade viewers along the Frederick Avenue route and the Downtown area.

MML in Kansas City Sept. 11 - 14, 2011

Warm fall weather welcomed us to Kansas City for the annual MML conference. St. Charles set the entertainment standards high last year but KC met the challenge with an evening in the Light and Power District that featured KC barbeque, KC beer, KC music and KC sports mascots.

Conference sessions and speakers covered a variety of topics for municipalities across Missouri. St. Joseph city staff and council members weren't too surprised, though, when we all showed up at an afternoon session entitled "Coping with Financial Distress in Missouri."

This was Bruce Woody's first MML as City Manager. Turns out, he's a night owl like some of the rest of us.

Fly-In

Members of the Community Alliance, St. Joseph Metro Chamber of Commerce and the community attended the annual Washington, DC fly-in April 5 - 6. We left Kansas City around 6:30 am on Tuesday, met with our Congressmembers in the nation's capitol and returned to KC Wednesday evening.

Week in Jeff City

Because Great Northwest Day was rescheduled after the Blizzard, three Council members spent nearly a week in Jefferson City attending both GNWD and the Missouri Municipal League's Legislative Conference. Several city staff went to GNWD and city attorney Lisa Robertson was at MML.
